Token Usage Rights

Usage Rights
I retain all rights to the artwork and tokens. You may use my tokens for personal use. You may distribute the free tokens but please do not distribute my premium token sets. After purchasing the tokens you can use them in any of your personal games. You may also share them with your regular gaming group.

Token rights for use in commercial products.
You can use any number of the free tokens in your adventures. (Dark Heroes, both Pathfinder sets and the Space Opera tokens may not be used in any free or commercial product)
You can use 10-20 premium tokens (from packs 21- newest releases, excluding Tome of Beast tokens) at a cost of $10 per token.
Token packs bought from the store do not qualify for commercial use. However any token that exists in my packs may be purchased for commercial use. (with the exception of Tome of Beasts, the Pathfinder sets, Dark Heroes and Space Opera tokens)
For $25 I can make a custom token that you can use exclusively in your commercial product. If I can also sell that token on my site the price is $15. For $10 per token I can modify an existing token to make it match your needs more closely.
The above costs are for the usage of tokens in one product.
Custom tokens made specifically for you may be used in multiple products.
Tokens cannot be bundled separately and may not make up the majority of the product.
Credit to Devin Night ( must appear somewhere in the credit section.
Art may not be modified without my permission. If permission is granted you have the right to alter the tokens in any manner you wish as long as it maintains my standards of work. Altering the token does not make it your work or void my ownership of the art.
I retain all rights to the art and any derivative art.

I retain the right to re-use and display all token art that I create. In general, I will not re-use a custom token exactly as it was made. In cases involving larger sets of custom tokens, I may release these tokens in token packs. I will do my best to keep all unique tokens of characters exclusive to the purchaser for one year. After that time It will probably be included in a token pack.

If posting screenshots of the tokens in action please credit Devin Night.

Please do not use the tokens or any derived work for commercial or non-commercial purposes unless you have contacted me and received permission to do so.

Thank you. Creating tokens is my main source of income and it allows me to keep my wife and children happy.

  1. Hi Devlin,

I would like to request the use of your free tokens in a Roll20 module I am putting together for D&D 5e. This is a commercial project and the tokens will not form a major part of the content; Instead I will offer ~50 dynamically lighted maps, custom soundscapes, rollable wandering monster tables, lore books and an area history, lots of custom monsters and NPC statblocks and backstories to form a total sandbox gaming experience.

As a long time fan of your work, it would be an honour if you would consent to this.

P.S. How many tokens roughly constitute a set and how much would you charge to create a custom token set for this project?

    1. Hey Stephen, thanks for contacting me. I am fine with you using the free tokens (packs 1-20) in your module.
Token packs usually have from 20-30 tokens. If it’s a pack I can also sell on my site then the cost is usually $7 per token. I can offer exclusive rights for the first year if needed.
If the tokens are going to be exclusive to that pack the cost is $25 per token. I would not sell those tokens. (Parts or variants of those tokens might be used in future tokens)
Feel free to contact me directly with any follow up question.

  2. Hey mate, i was wondering what the go is with buying tokens and using them in little instagram encounter animation videos?
Can put website in captions etc. Just wasn’t sure where this fits with ‘personal’ use.
I figure it’s like people using them in games then streaming them?
I do something similar with Alex Drummos ‘Epic Isometric Bundle’ stuff from drivethru rpg and it’s been beneficial to his sales apparently.
Any information on what you would find acceptable would be appreciated.
I pm’d you on your FB page with link to account if you want to check on quality control etc.
Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

  3. I would like clarification on some of the terms:
1)”You may distribute the free tokens but please do not distribute my premium token sets.” Does this mean that free tokens are usable in commercial products as long as “Credit to Devin Night ( must appear somewhere in the credit section.” rule is met

    2) If the answer to question one no, what is the price to use these in commercial products?

I see the price set up but in the format above I’m just not grasping the rules on the free tokens.

    Thank you for your time.

    1. You can use free tokens in your commercial product as long as you still follow the rules for giving credit and limiting the number of tokens to less than 20.
Thanks for asking for the clarification, if you have more questions feel free to contact me directly.

  4. Hey Devin,

This seems to be the only way to contact you. I was hoping that you would give me permission to use your free tokens in a couple module projects I am working up on Roll20. The credit line you require will certainly be included. I would assume it is permissible to just use the tokens right from Roll20.

Also, thank you so much for making these accessible for those of us trying to get into the creation business.

    1. Yes, you and anyone can use my FREE tokens (packs 1-20, Pathfinder and Dark Heroes are off limits) in their modules. Any pack that cost $$ is off limits without first contacting me.
Thanks for asking, sorry my email is more prominently displayed. You are welcome.
